Work on the Outpatient Building site is moving along, with pile caps in place.

Pile caps are essentially thick concrete mats which distribute the weight of the building across the foundations.

There are 78 piles in place which average 19m below ground, the deepest at 35m because the site is the old foreshore. This means the building is well anchored and significant testing has taken place to ensure it meets earthquake safety standards.
