Site visit offers everything from civil engineering to picnic table construction!

Students from Taieri College, Queens High School and Otago Girls High School joined BCITO Te Pūkenga, Workforce Central Dunedin, Ceres NZ and Mitre 10 to meet women already working in the construction industry, get hands-on experience of the trades and tour the New Dunedin Hospital Inpatient Building site.

Participants also viewed the virtual reality model of the Outpatient Building to see how it will be constructed and make their own observations of what the building needed to make it suitable for purpose. For those interested in civil engineering, it was a great opportunity to see the works related to the foundations of the Inpatient Building and the substantial preparation work needed for large building construction.

During the event, students also built a picnic table (which will be donated to charity), and their own birdhouse.
